Product Overview
12" × 24" Alicante Crema Marfil Premium Spanish Marble Tile brings the signature warmth of Spain’s celebrated beige natural stone to expansive floors and walls. Sourced from the Alicante region, Crema Marfil is recognized for its creamy ivory-beige background, subtle tonal clouds, fine tan or golden veining, and occasional natural fossil markings.
The elongated 12" × 24" format reduces grout lines and gives the stone a cleaner, more architectural presence than traditional square tile. Available in polished and honed finishes, it can create either a luminous, reflective surface or a softer contemporary appearance.
“Premium” describes Hey Tiles’ selected visual quality and color consistency. Because this is genuine natural stone, variations in tone, veining, fossils, filled areas, and mineral markings remain inherent and should be expected.

Crema Marfil is a globally recognized beige stone from Spain’s Alicante region, principally associated with the Pinoso and Monte Coto quarrying area. Its characteristic appearance includes a creamy beige field with subtle natural veining.
Finish Options
Polished
-
Glossy, reflective appearance
-
Deepens the beige and golden coloration
-
Best for walls, backsplashes, foyers, and suitable dry interior floors
-
May become slippery when wet
-
More visibly susceptible to etching and surface wear
Honed
-
Smooth, low-sheen appearance
-
Produces a softer and more contemporary color presentation
-
Generally preferable for appropriate bathroom and higher-use residential floors
-
Scratches and etching are usually less visually prominent
-
Still requires project-specific slip evaluation
Recommended Applications
-
Living-Area Floors: Creates a continuous warm-neutral foundation in foyers, dining rooms, hallways, and living spaces.
-
Primary Bathrooms: Suitable for bathroom floors, vanity walls, tub surrounds, and full-height feature walls.
-
Shower Walls: Appropriate over an approved waterproofing system with white natural-stone mortar.
-
Kitchen Backsplashes: Complements cream cabinetry, warm white quartz, walnut, oak, and traditional millwork.
-
Fireplace Surrounds: Provides a refined Spanish-stone finish when installed within required fireplace clearances.
-
Commercial Interiors: May be considered for suitable light-commercial walls and floors, with finish and traffic conditions evaluated by the project designer.
-
Feature Walls: The 12" × 24" scale supports horizontal, vertically stacked, and restrained offset layouts.
Polished 12" × 24" marble is not recommended for shower floors or other walking surfaces where wet slip resistance is a primary concern.
Installation & Handling Guidelines
⚠️ IMPORTANT: NATURAL STONE REQUIRES LOT INSPECTION
Inspect, dry-lay, and approve the complete material before installation. Installed stone is generally considered accepted material.
-
Dry-Lay and Blend: Open several cartons and distribute lighter, darker, more heavily veined, and fossil-bearing pieces throughout the installation.
-
White Mortar: Use a premium white polymer-modified Large and Heavy Tile mortar approved for natural stone and the installation environment.
-
Substrate Flatness: Correct substrate irregularities before installation. Large-format stone requires a particularly flat and stable surface.
-
Back-Butter the Tile: Directionally trowel the mortar and back-butter each piece to improve support and minimize voids.
-
Mortar Coverage: Achieve at least 80% coverage in dry interiors and 95% in wet areas, with complete support along edges and corners.
-
Grout Joint: Approximately 1/16" to 1/8" may be appropriate after the actual tile dimensions and calibration have been inspected. Do not promise a 1/16-inch joint without checking the lot.
-
Offset Limitation: For running-bond installations, use an offset of no more than 33% unless the tile and substrate have been evaluated for a different pattern.
-
Leveling System: Clips and wedges may help control lippage but do not correct an uneven substrate or warped material.
-
Pre-Sealing: Apply a compatible penetrating natural-stone sealer before grouting. Test the sealer on spare material first.
-
Grout Selection: Use unsanded grout or fine-aggregate grout approved for polished or honed natural stone. Test for scratching and pigment absorption.
-
Wet Areas: Install shower applications over a complete waterproofing system. Stone sealer does not waterproof the assembly.
-
Movement Joints: Provide perimeter and field movement accommodation following TCNA EJ171 and applicable construction standards.
-
Cutting: Wet-cut with a clean continuous-rim diamond blade designed for marble or dense limestone.
-
Order Allowance: Add approximately 10–15% for cuts, breakage, natural selection, shade blending, and future repairs.
Natural-Stone Characteristics
Crema Marfil may naturally display:
-
Cream, ivory, honey, and beige tonal differences
-
Fine tan, gold, cinnamon, or pale-white veins
-
Small fossils and shell-like markings
-
Mineral deposits and clouded areas
-
Natural fissures and factory-filled sections
-
Slight differences in surface sheen and edge calibration
These characteristics are not automatically defects. “Premium” selection may provide greater visual consistency, but it does not make natural stone completely uniform.
Care & Maintenance
-
Clean with warm water and a neutral-pH cleaner formulated for natural stone.
-
Avoid vinegar, lemon, acidic bathroom cleaners, harsh alkaline products, bleach, and abrasive powders.
-
Wipe spills promptly, especially citrus, wine, coffee, oils, cosmetics, and strongly pigmented liquids.
-
Use soft microfiber cloths, stone-safe mops, and non-abrasive brushes.
-
Reseal periodically based on absorption, location, traffic, and the sealer manufacturer’s instructions.
-
Use entry mats and felt furniture pads to reduce grit-related scratching.
-
Do not use topical waxes or coatings that may alter the finish or create a slippery film.
Design Profile
-
Aesthetic: Contemporary Mediterranean, Spanish Revival, warm transitional, European classic, and quiet luxury.
-
Color Character: Buttery cream, warm ivory, beige, pale honey, and restrained cinnamon veining.
-
Visual Advantage: The 12" × 24" format creates a more expansive appearance with fewer grout lines.
-
Complementary Materials: Dark walnut, white oak, warm white quartz, aged plaster, terracotta, and dark stone accents.
-
Complementary Metals: Unlacquered brass, champagne bronze, polished nickel, and aged bronze.
-
Suggested Grout Colors: Cream, vanilla, warm ivory, biscuit, or pale beige.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Crema Marfil genuine Spanish marble?
Yes. Crema Marfil is a renowned Spanish natural stone associated with the Alicante region. Geologically, it is often described as a dense bioclastic limestone, although it is commercially sold worldwide as marble.
Does “Premium” represent an official stone grade?
No. Natural-stone grading is not governed by one universal retail standard. “Premium” should be presented as Hey Tiles’ selected visual quality rather than an ASTM-certified grade.
Is this specific tile guaranteed to come from the Monte Coto quarry?
Not unless the supplier documentation for the current inventory confirms it. Crema Marfil is principally associated with Monte Coto and nearby Alicante quarrying areas, but the commercial name covers multiple sources and selections.
Is the tile available polished and honed?
Yes. The current Hey Tiles product page has polished and honed variants. Make sure each variant has its own correct image, SKU, inventory, and weight when applicable.
Can polished Crema Marfil be installed on bathroom floors?
It may be used on suitable dry bathroom floors, but polished marble becomes slippery when wet. Honed material or a smaller-format mosaic is generally preferable where traction is important.
Can it be installed on shower walls?
Yes, over a complete waterproofing system using white mortar approved for natural stone.
Does Crema Marfil require sealing?
Yes. Apply a compatible penetrating natural-stone sealer before grouting and reseal periodically.
Will every tile have the same beige color?
No. Natural differences in cream intensity, veining, fossils, mineral markings, and filled areas should be expected, even within a premium-selected lot.
