Product Overview

MSI Atlantic Blue 16" × 24" × 2" Marble Pool Coping brings the cool sophistication of genuine Turkish marble to pools, spas, steps, and outdoor architectural features. Its blue-gray background displays natural movement in silvery gray, smoky blue, soft white, and occasional darker mineral tones.

A textured sandblasted-and-brushed finish provides a softly weathered appearance appropriate for outdoor environments. One 24-inch side features a full bullnose edge, creating a comfortable, finished transition between the pool deck and water.

The generous 16-inch depth accommodates wider bond beams, raised spas, seat walls, steps, and architectural caps. Matching Atlantic Blue marble pavers are available for coordinated outdoor installations.

Recommended Applications

  • Swimming-Pool Coping: Creates a substantial natural-stone transition between the pool deck and water.

  • Raised-Spa Coping: Finishes elevated spas, spillways, and integrated water features with a rounded exposed edge.

  • Exterior Step Treads: The 16-inch depth and full bullnose edge accommodate appropriate stair and landing designs.

  • Retaining and Seat-Wall Caps: Provides a wide finished surface over masonry walls, benches, and landscape structures.

  • Outdoor-Kitchen Caps: Suitable for fully supported island walls, bar structures, and other architectural features.

  • Fountains and Water Features: Brings a consistent blue-gray marble finish to properly constructed and waterproofed assemblies.

Installation & Handling Guidelines

⚠️ IMPORTANT: NATURAL MARBLE IN POOL ENVIRONMENTS

Marble is chemically sensitive and naturally porous. The substrate, waterproofing, mortar, grout, sealant, drainage, pool chemistry, and movement joints must function as one complete exterior system.

  • Inspect Before Installation: Examine all pieces for dimensions, finish, edge profile, cracks, repairs, and natural variation before setting them.

  • Dry-Lay and Blend: Arrange material from the complete order to distribute lighter, darker, and more strongly marked pieces evenly.

  • Substrate Preparation: Install over a structurally sound and properly prepared concrete or masonry bond beam. Correct cracks and irregularities before setting the coping.

  • Waterproofing: Use a waterproofing and crack-isolation system approved for pools, submerged areas, and exterior natural stone.

  • Mortar Selection: Install with a premium white polymer-modified Large and Heavy Tile mortar meeting ANSI A118.15 and approved for marble and continuous wet exposure.

  • Mortar Coverage: Directionally trowel the mortar and back-butter every piece. Achieve at least 95% coverage with full support beneath the body and bullnose.

  • Drainage: Provide positive drainage away from the pool or wall so water cannot remain trapped beneath or behind the coping.

  • Movement Joints: Include a flexible joint between the coping and adjoining deck. Provide additional movement accommodation according to TCNA EJ171 and project requirements.

  • Joint Width: Select a joint capable of accommodating the natural dimensional variation, exterior movement, and installer’s layout requirements.

  • Step-Tread Installation: Fully support the marble and verify tread depth, riser consistency, bullnose projection, drainage, and local stair-code requirements.

  • Cutting Safety: Wet-cut with a diamond blade designed for marble. Never dry-cut or grind because fabrication releases hazardous respirable silica dust.

  • Order Allowance: Add approximately 10–15% for cuts, breakage, natural-stone selection, and future repairs.

Sealing Guidelines

  • Apply a high-quality penetrating sealer approved for exterior marble and chlorinated or saltwater environments.

  • Test the sealer on a spare piece because some formulations can darken the stone or alter its surface appearance.

  • Seal the clean, dry stone according to the product manufacturer’s instructions.

  • Remove all sealer residue before it dries on the surface.

  • Sealing helps reduce moisture and stain absorption but does not make marble waterproof, acid-proof, or maintenance-free.

Shade Variation

Atlantic Blue is genuine natural marble with medium variation. Differences in blue-gray tone, veining, mineral markings, fossil-like details, surface texture, and edge character are expected.

View and blend the entire order before installation. Samples represent the general appearance but cannot display every variation found in the supplied material.

Care & Maintenance

  • Sweep or rinse away loose soil regularly.

  • Clean with a neutral-pH cleaner formulated for exterior natural stone.

  • Avoid muriatic acid, vinegar, lemon, acidic pool cleaners, and abrasive powders. Acids can permanently etch marble.

  • Keep pool-water chemistry balanced to reduce scaling, staining, salt crystallization, and deterioration of installation materials.

  • Remove leaves, fertilizer, metal objects, and organic debris promptly to limit staining.

  • Use a soft nylon brush instead of wire brushes or aggressive abrasive equipment.

  • Reseal when the stone begins absorbing water readily, following the sealer manufacturer’s recommendations.

  • Inspect grout, flexible joints, and surrounding drainage periodically and repair failures promptly.

Design Profile

  • Aesthetic: Coastal contemporary, Mediterranean resort, modern organic, and European courtyard.

  • Color Character: Cool blue gray with silver, soft white, and smoky mineral movement.

  • Visual Advantage: The wide coping format creates a substantial architectural frame around pools and raised outdoor structures.

  • Coordinating Materials: Atlantic Blue marble pavers, pale-gray porcelain, blue glass mosaics, limestone, teak, and architectural concrete.

  • Complementary Pool Finishes: White plaster, gray aggregate, deep blue interiors, and blue-green waterline mosaics.

  • Complementary Metals: Brushed stainless steel, matte black, marine-grade aluminum, and aged bronze.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Atlantic Blue genuine marble?

Yes. MSI classifies Atlantic Blue as genuine natural marble quarried and fabricated in Turkey.

Is the correct size 12" × 24" or 16" × 24"?

This description is for the 16" × 24" version, SKU LCOPMATLBLU1624SB. MSI’s 12" × 24" version has SKU LCOPMATLBLU1224SB.

Is the finish tumbled or sandblasted and brushed?

MSI includes “Tumbled” in the product name but currently specifies the actual surface finish as Sandblasted/Brushed. Use that finish designation unless your inventory is the older genuinely tumbled version ending in SKU T rather than SB.

Which side has the bullnose edge?

One of the 24-inch sides has a full bullnose profile.

How thick is the coping?

It is nominally two inches thick, approximately five centimeters.

How much does one piece cover?

One nominal 16" × 24" piece covers approximately 2.67 square feet. This is coverage information, not a selling-price calculation.

Can it be used as a stair tread?

Yes, when the piece is fully supported and the complete stair complies with structural, dimensional, drainage, slip-resistance, and building-code requirements.

Can Atlantic Blue be used with a saltwater pool?

It may be used when the stone, waterproofing, setting materials, grout, sealant, and maintenance program are approved for saltwater exposure. Saltwater environments require especially careful sealing and chemistry management.

Does Atlantic Blue marble require sealing?

Yes. A penetrating sealer approved for exterior marble and the particular pool environment is recommended. Sealer must not be treated as a substitute for waterproofing.

Is a wet slip-resistance rating available?

MSI does not publish a numerical DCOF rating for this coping. Confirm suitability with the project designer, installer, and applicable local requirements.
