Product Overview

MSI Avalon Bay Splitface Marble Ledgestone Veneer delivers the depth and character of hand-laid masonry through individual pieces of genuine natural marble. The loose stones feature bold charcoal and dark-gray tones accented by occasional earthy brown highlights, creating a layered architectural surface with substantial texture and natural variation.

Unlike preassembled ledger panels, Avalon Bay consists of random-size loose veneer pieces. This allows installers to customize stone placement, stagger joints, and create a more authentic hand-built appearance across exterior façades, fireplace surrounds, columns, outdoor kitchens, garden walls, and architectural features.

This listing includes one crate covering approximately 100 square feet.

Recommended Applications

  • Exterior façades: Creates authentic hand-laid stonework across residential and commercial building exteriors.

  • Fireplace surrounds: Adds substantial texture to fireplace projections and floor-to-ceiling feature walls when installed within required heat clearances.

  • Columns and pillars: Matching corner pieces allow the stonework to wrap naturally around outside corners.

  • Outdoor kitchens: Suitable for barbecue islands, entertainment structures and kitchen surrounds over an approved veneer substrate.

  • Garden and landscape walls: Provides a refined finish over structurally sound masonry or concrete walls. The veneer itself is not structural.

  • Interior feature walls: May be used for approved accent walls, entries and hospitality installations after verifying substrate capacity and applicable building requirements.

Installation Guidelines

⚠️ IMPORTANT: LOOSE HEAVY-STONE VENEER

Avalon Bay is not a mesh-mounted panel. Each stone must be individually placed, supported and blended by a qualified stone-veneer installer.

  • Substrate preparation: Install over an approved masonry, concrete or code-compliant framed-wall veneer assembly. Exterior framed walls commonly require a weather-resistant barrier, flashing, drainage provisions, metal lath and a properly prepared scratch coat.

  • Veneer mortar: Use a premium mortar specifically approved for adhered natural-stone veneer and the installation environment.

  • Mortar contact: Apply mortar to the prepared substrate and back of each stone as required. Avoid unsupported voids that could weaken the installation or collect moisture.

  • Stone blending: Open and blend material throughout the crate before installation. Distribute dark-gray, charcoal and brown-highlighted pieces naturally across the wall.

  • Joint treatment: The loose format may be installed with tight joints or visible mortar joints, depending on the approved system and desired aesthetic.

  • Corner installation: Set matching Avalon Bay corner pieces first, alternating their direction between courses. Fit the flat veneer into the corner returns.

  • Flashing and drainage: Exterior walls require properly detailed openings, weep systems, terminations, flashing and movement accommodation to prevent moisture intrusion.

  • Fireplace requirements: Follow the fireplace manufacturer’s clearances and local building codes. Natural marble does not make an improperly constructed assembly heat-safe.

  • Height and weight: Tall walls, façades and overhead installations may require engineering or mechanical support. Confirm allowable veneer weight and height with the project professional.

  • Wet cutting only: Cut with a suitable diamond blade using wet methods. MSI warns that dry cutting or grinding can release hazardous crystalline-silica dust.

  • Order allowance: Add approximately 10–15% for cutting, fitting, breakage, color blending and future repairs.

Care and Maintenance

  • Remove dust using a soft-bristle brush or vacuum attachment.

  • Clean with warm water and a neutral-pH natural-stone cleaner.

  • Avoid vinegar, acidic cleaners, harsh bleach solutions and wire brushes.

  • A breathable penetrating stone sealer may be considered for exterior, moisture-prone or grease-prone installations.

  • Test sealers on spare material because enhancing formulas may noticeably darken the marble.

  • Inspect exterior walls periodically for open joints, movement, damaged flashing or moisture intrusion.

Design Profile

  • Aesthetic inspiration: Modern lodge, mountain contemporary, organic architecture and refined rustic design.

  • Color character: Charcoal and deep gray with occasional warm-brown mineral highlights.

  • Surface character: Rough splitface texture creates pronounced highlights and shadows.

  • Format advantage: Random loose pieces produce a more authentic custom-masonry appearance than repeating modular panels.

  • Complementary materials: Natural oak, dark walnut, blackened steel, concrete, leather and warm plaster.

  • Complementary metals: Matte black, gunmetal, aged bronze and brushed stainless steel.

  • Lighting recommendation: Directional grazing light emphasizes the splitface texture and individual stone depths.
