Product Overview
Calacatta Green Penny Round "CalaVerde" Polished 11" x 11.75" Mosaic Tile brings a fresh, organic twist to classic penny round geometric design. Crafted from luxury natural marble, this mosaic features a crisp, luminous white marble background layered with expressive veins of sage green, deep emerald, and subtle gray undertones.
The classic 3/4" penny round chips are mounted on a flexible 11" x 11.75" mesh-backed interlocking sheet (~0.90 sq. ft. per sheet) for efficient installation. Finished in a high-gloss polished sheen that catches light beautifully, CalaVerde is an exceptional choice for kitchen backsplashes, primary bath feature walls, shower floors, and decorative niche accents looking for a pop of sophisticated green marble.

Installation and Handling Guidelines
⚠️ IMPORTANT: NATURAL STONE MOSAIC INSTALLATION PROTOCOL
-
Pre-Sealing Essential: Calacatta Green marble is a porous natural stone. Apply a high-quality penetrating natural stone sealer to the mosaic faces prior to grouting to guard against grout haze and pigment absorption.
-
Pure White Thin-Set Mortar Required: Always set light-colored natural marble mosaics using a polymer-modified pure white thin-set mortar (ANSI A118.4). Gray thinset will shadow through translucent white marble and dull its background.
-
Flatten Trowel Ridges: Apply thinset with a 3/16" x 1/4" V-notch trowel, then flatten the mortar ridges with the smooth side of the trowel before setting the sheet. This prevents trowel rake lines from showing through grout joints.
-
Non-Abrasive Grout Selection: Maintain a tight joint and use a non-sanded grout or high-performance flexible grout designed for delicate natural stone to avoid scratching polished surfaces.
Care and Maintenance
-
Routine Cleaning: Clean regularly using warm water and a neutral pH natural stone cleaner. Avoid acidic cleaners, vinegar, bleach, lemon juice, or abrasive scrubbers, which will etch marble surfaces.
-
Periodic Resealing: Reapply a quality penetrating stone sealer every 1 to 2 years (or more frequently in heavy shower wet areas) to maintain water repellency and stain defense.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Calacatta Green Penny Round marble require sealing?
Yes. As genuine natural marble, it is porous and must be sealed with a penetrating stone sealer prior to grouting and maintained periodically over time.
Is this penny round mosaic suitable for shower floors?
Yes! The small chip size produces a dense network of grout joints, which provides natural underfoot slip resistance in wet shower conditions.
Why is white thinset mortar required for installation?
Calacatta marble possesses natural translucency. Standard gray thinset mortar will show through the stone, causing dark discoloration or uneven shading across the white regions.
