Product Overview

Fujiwa PAD-171 Brown Blend 1" × 1" Porcelain Mosaic Pool Tile brings warm, natural color and subtle surface texture to pools, spas, fountains, and architectural accent areas. Its earthy palette combines fawn, golden tan, toasted brown, cocoa, and soft umber tones, creating the understated appearance of natural stone in a durable porcelain mosaic.

Small 1" square chips are arranged on mesh-mounted sheets for easier installation across waterlines, pool interiors, curved spa walls, fountains, and decorative surfaces. Intentional differences in color between individual chips give the finished installation depth without creating an overly dramatic or heavily patterned appearance.

Brown Blend coordinates especially well with travertine coping, beige pool finishes, warm concrete, natural stone, and Mediterranean or organic-modern landscapes.

Recommended Applications

  • Swimming-Pool Waterlines: Creates a warm, stone-inspired transition between pool water and beige or natural-stone coping.

  • Full Pool Interiors: Fujiwa specifically identifies the PAD Series for use across the entire body of a pool.

  • Spa Walls and Interiors: The small mosaic format adapts well to compact spa surfaces and appropriate curved walls.

  • Fountains and Water Features: Adds subtle organic color to spillways, fountain basins, and decorative water walls.

  • Curved Pool Surfaces: Mesh-mounted 1" chips can follow suitable radiused walls more easily than large-format field tile.

  • Kitchen and Bar Backsplashes: Provides a warm, understated mosaic surface for appropriate interior walls.

  • Bathroom and Shower Walls: Suitable over a complete waterproofing system using setting materials approved for porcelain mosaics.

Do not describe PAD-171 as slip-resistant or automatically recommend it for shower floors, pool steps, sun shelves, or other walking surfaces. No project-specific DCOF or wet-barefoot slip classification has been published.

Installation & Handling Guidelines

⚠️ IMPORTANT: MESH-MOUNTED SUBMERGED MOSAIC

The adhesive used to mount mosaic chips must not prevent the installation mortar from bonding adequately to the backs of the tiles. The installer should inspect the sheets before approving them for submerged use.

  • Inspect the Sheets: Confirm the series, color code, thickness, mounting, chip spacing, and quantity before installation.

  • Dry-Lay and Blend: Arrange sheets from multiple cartons to distribute lighter fawn, golden-tan, and darker brown sections evenly.

  • Avoid Visible Sheet Lines: Offset or stagger sheets where practical. Adjust individual perimeter chips to keep the grid consistent between adjoining sheets.

  • Prepare a Mockup: Test the mosaic with the selected mortar and grout. View the sample both wet and dry because immersion can affect the perceived depth of the brown tones.

  • Substrate Preparation: Pool shells and other substrates must be fully cured, stable, clean, and properly prepared for the specified waterproofing and setting system.

  • Mortar Selection: Use a premium mortar approved for porcelain mosaics, exterior exposure, and continuous submersion where applicable.

  • Trowel Selection: Use a notch appropriate for the mosaic thickness. Flatten mortar ridges before positioning the sheets to prevent mortar from filling the grout joints.

  • Embed Evenly: Press sheets into the mortar using a rubber grout float or padded beating block. Do not push so firmly that mortar rises excessively between the chips.

  • Coverage: Obtain substantially complete mortar contact behind every mosaic chip, particularly in submerged, exterior, and freeze-thaw installations.

  • Grout Selection: Use a high-performance cementitious or epoxy grout specifically approved for pools and permanent water exposure.

  • Movement Joints: Include perimeter, change-of-plane, and field movement joints according to the project specification and applicable tile-industry requirements.

  • Pool Filling: Observe the complete curing period required by the waterproofing, mortar, grout, and sealant manufacturers before filling the pool.

  • Order Allowance: Add approximately 10–15% for cuts, sheet alignment, blending, breakage, and future repairs.

Care & Maintenance

  • Clean with a soft nylon brush or non-abrasive pad and a pool-safe tile cleaner.

  • Maintain properly balanced pool-water chemistry to reduce mineral deposits and discoloration.

  • Remove waterline residue regularly before it develops into heavy scale.

  • Avoid metal brushes, abrasive powders, and aggressive scraping tools that could damage the matte surface or grout.

  • Do not apply topical waxes or coatings that could change the tile’s appearance or wet-surface performance.

  • Porcelain normally does not require sealing. Follow the grout manufacturer’s sealing requirements.

Design Profile

  • Aesthetic Inspiration: Mediterranean poolscape, organic modern, desert resort, natural lagoon, and Tuscan outdoor living.

  • Color Character: Fawn, golden tan, toasted chestnut, cocoa, ochre, and warm brown.

  • Surface Character: Matte with a subtle natural-looking texture.

  • Visual Advantage: Variations among the small chips create a blended, stone-inspired surface without the maintenance requirements of natural stone.

  • Complementary Coping: Ivory travertine, Walnut travertine, Crema Marfil, beige limestone, and warm concrete.

  • Complementary Decking: Sand-colored porcelain pavers, tumbled travertine, light concrete, and natural wood tones.

  • Suggested Grout Colors: Warm gray, mushroom, almond, mocha, or light brown.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this product part of the Fujiwa Pavo Series?

No. Fujiwa identifies PAD-171 Brown Blend as part of the PAD Series. “Pavo Series” should be removed from the product title and description.

Is Brown Blend the same as Fawn Blend?

PAD-171 is marketed by some distributors as Fawn Blend. Fujiwa’s official current product page identifies it as Brown Blend.

How thick is the mosaic?

Fujiwa publishes a thickness of 0.18", approximately 4.6 mm. Distributor specifications commonly round this to 5 mm.

How much does one sheet cover?

Current distributor specifications list approximately 1.08 sq. ft. per sheet. Verify the physical sheet before updating Shopify’s coverage calculator.

Can it be installed throughout a swimming pool?

Yes. Fujiwa specifically states that the PAD Series may be used for the entire body of a pool, as a waterline, or for mosaic artwork.

Can it follow a curved spa wall?

The mesh-mounted 1" mosaic format can accommodate many gentle curves. The installer should test-fit the sheets because the acceptable radius depends on sheet construction and chip spacing.

Is it suitable for shower floors or pool steps?

No slip-resistance rating is published. Obtain approval from the installer, designer, and applicable local authority before using it on any walking surface.

Does the porcelain require sealing?

The porcelain normally does not require sealing. Cement-based grout may require sealing according to its manufacturer.
