Do I need to use grout with Gold Rush Ledger Panels?
No. These panels are designed to be grout-free. The individual stones are tightly adhered to a mesh backing, and the "Z-shape" ends of the panels interlock to hide seams, creating a continuous, natural stone appearance.
Can I install these panels over drywall?
Yes, for interior installations, they can be applied over sturdy, clean drywall or cement backer board using a high-bond thinset. For exterior applications or large fireplace projects, we recommend a cement backer board or wire lath with a scratch coat for maximum support.
Does natural slate need to be sealed?
Yes. We highly recommend applying a penetrating stone sealer after installation. This protects the slate from dust and moisture and can even "enhance" the warm rust and gold colors if you choose an enhancing-type sealer.
Are there matching corner pieces available?
Yes. To achieve a professional finish on outside corners, MSI offers matching "L-shaped" Gold Rush corner pieces (sold separately). These eliminate the need for difficult miter cuts and ensure a clean, wrap-around stone look.
Can I use this behind a stove as a backsplash?
Absolutely. Slate is heat-resistant and durable. However, because of the deep texture, we recommend sealing it well to make cleaning grease splatters easier.

• Use White Thinset: For best results, use a high-quality, polymer-modified white thinset (like ProLite) to avoid "ghosting" or staining the natural stone.
• Cleaning: Maintain the stone’s beauty by using a soft brush to remove dust. For deeper cleaning, use only pH-neutral stone cleaners. Avoid acidic cleaners or pressure washers, which can damage the slate’s natural layers.
