Installation and Handling Guidelines

IMPORTANT: LONG-PLANK INSTALLATION

The five-foot plank length requires an exceptionally flat substrate and careful layout. Evaluate the tiles and substrate before installation to control lippage.

• Open multiple cartons and dry-lay pieces before setting. Blend the subtle tonal and graphic differences throughout the installation.

• Check all cartons for matching caliber and production lot information.

• Use an ANSI A118.4 or A118.15 polymer-modified large-and-heavy-tile mortar approved for porcelain.

• Directionally trowel the mortar and back-butter the planks as needed.

• Obtain at least 80% mortar coverage in dry interiors and 95% in wet applications, with full support beneath tile edges and corners.

• Limit running-bond offsets to approximately 33% unless tile flatness has been evaluated and the installer approves another pattern.

• Rectified edges allow controlled joints but do not permit grout-free installation. Follow the manufacturer, grout producer, and installer’s joint-width requirements.

• A tile-leveling system may help manage adjoining edges, but it does not correct an uneven substrate.

• Incorporate perimeter and field movement joints in accordance with TCNA EJ171 and applicable building requirements.

• Use wet-cutting equipment or approved dust-control methods. Cutting porcelain can release respirable crystalline silica.

• Order approximately 10–15% additional material for cuts, layout selection, breakage, and future repairs. More may be needed for diagonal or complex layouts.

Care and Maintenance

• Clean routinely with warm water and a neutral-pH porcelain-tile cleaner.

• Remove loose grit with a soft broom, microfiber mop, or nonabrasive vacuum attachment.

• Avoid waxes, oily soaps, and cleaners that leave a slippery residue.

• Do not use steel wool or aggressive abrasive pads.

• Clean spills promptly and rinse away remaining detergent.

• Porcelain normally does not require sealing. Cement-based grout may require sealing according to its manufacturer’s instructions.
