Product Overview

Elysium Helsinki Taupe 8" x 48" Matte Porcelain Tile recreates the warmth and linear movement of natural wood in a durable, low-maintenance porcelain surface. Its taupe-brown palette blends muted beige, weathered gray, and soft earthen tones, creating a versatile foundation for contemporary, Scandinavian, rustic, and transitional interiors.

Recommended Applications

  • Living Rooms and Open Interiors: Creates the warmth of wood while offering the moisture and wear resistance of porcelain.

  • Kitchen and Dining Floors: Provides a practical surface around food preparation and dining areas without the sensitivity of natural hardwood.

  • Bathroom Floors: Suitable for properly prepared bathroom floors where the large plank format can be accommodated.

  • Shower Walls: The elongated format can create a dramatic horizontal or vertical wood-look feature over an approved waterproofing system.

  • Bedrooms and Hallways: Produces visual continuity through adjoining rooms without the refinishing requirements associated with wood flooring.

  • Commercial Interiors: Its PEI 4 rating supports appropriate medium-traffic retail, office, hospitality, and restaurant applications.

  • Feature Walls: Can be installed horizontally, vertically, or in selected patterned layouts to create architectural wood-look surfaces.

Installation and Handling Guidelines

⚠️ IMPORTANT: LONG-PLANK TILE INSTALLATION

Long porcelain planks require a flat substrate and careful layout. Substrate irregularities and excessive offsets can increase the risk of lippage.

  • Inspect Before Installation: Confirm the color, caliber, finish, and quantity before installation. Blend tiles from several cartons to distribute the V2 tonal variation.

  • Substrate Flatness: The installation surface should meet the flatness requirements for large-format tile. Correct high and low areas before setting the material.

  • Mortar Selection: Use an ANSI A118.4 or A118.15 polymer-modified Large and Heavy Tile mortar approved for porcelain.

  • Mortar Coverage: Directionally trowel the mortar and back-butter the planks when necessary. Obtain at least 80% coverage in dry interiors and 95% in wet areas.

  • Offset Limitation: For running-bond layouts, use a maximum offset of approximately 33% unless the tiles have been evaluated and the installer approves another arrangement.

  • Grout Joint: Rectified edges permit controlled grout joints, but they should not be installed edge-to-edge. Final joint width must accommodate tile calibration, substrate conditions, and installer requirements.

  • Wet Areas: Install bathroom and shower-wall applications over a complete waterproofing system. Tile and grout do not replace waterproofing.

  • Shower-Floor Limitation: The 8" x 48" plank format is generally impractical for conventional shower floors because it cannot easily follow the required drainage slope. Use a coordinating smaller-format tile instead.

  • Movement Joints: Provide perimeter and field movement accommodation following TCNA EJ171 and applicable construction requirements.

  • Cutting Safety: Wet-cut with a porcelain-rated diamond blade. Do not dry-cut or grind because airborne crystalline-silica dust can cause serious respiratory harm.

  • Order Allowance: Add approximately 10–15% for straight installations and 15–20% for diagonal, herringbone, or highly selective layouts.

Care and Maintenance

  • Sweep or vacuum regularly to prevent abrasive dirt from accumulating.

  • Clean with warm water and a neutral-pH porcelain tile cleaner.

  • Avoid waxes, oily soaps, and film-forming cleaners that may leave the matte surface slippery or dull.

  • Use non-abrasive pads or soft nylon brushes for stubborn residue.

  • Porcelain normally does not require sealing. Cement-based grout may require sealing according to its manufacturer’s instructions.

  • Protect the floor from dragging furniture, metal objects, and construction debris.

Shade Variation

Helsinki Taupe carries a V2 moderate-variation rating. Subtle differences in tone, wood-grain movement, and graphic detail should be expected between pieces.

Open multiple cartons and blend the planks before installation. Inspect the complete layout before setting because installed material is generally considered accepted.

Design Profile

  • Aesthetic Inspiration: Scandinavian interiors, contemporary rustic, organic modern, coastal minimalism, and relaxed transitional design.

  • Color Character: Taupe brown with weathered beige, soft gray, and muted earthen undertones.

  • Visual Advantage: The 48-inch plank length creates an expansive wood-floor appearance with fewer interruptions.

  • Layout Options: Straight plank, one-third offset, random stagger, vertical wall installation, and installer-approved herringbone.

  • Complementary Materials: Cream limestone, ivory quartz, warm concrete, black metal, plaster walls, and natural textiles.

  • Complementary Metals: Matte black, aged bronze, brushed nickel, and champagne bronze.

  • Suggested Grout Colors: Taupe, mushroom, light brown, or warm gray creates a coordinated wood-plank appearance.
