Marble is an extremely versatile material that is often used because of its beauty in both interiors and exteriors of prestigious architectural designs. Marble from different sources ranges from pure white through various shades of pink and blue-grey. The Taj Mahal, in India, features extensive use of marble, and in the United States, the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Supreme Court building are primarily of marble construction.
Herringbone is the first known parquet pattern, tracing back to the Roman Empire in 500 BC, with the design principle inspired by the skeleton of a herring fish.
