Product Overview
Cerdomus Pietra di Ostuni Avorio 16" × 16" Matte Porcelain Tile recreates the softly weathered limestone found throughout Italy’s historic Salento region. Its warm ivory field blends pale cream, sun-washed beige and subtle mineral markings, capturing the character of timeworn Mediterranean stone.
A textured matte surface and vintage-effect chiselled edges reinforce its aged architectural appearance. With intentional V4 variation, every installation displays substantial differences in tone, markings and graphic intensity. The square format can be installed independently or combined with coordinating Ostuni sizes to create a traditional four-piece Versailles pattern.

Recommended Applications
-
Kitchen and Living-Area Floors: Creates the warmth of an aged Italian limestone floor without the sealing requirements of natural stone.
-
Bathrooms and Powder Rooms: Suitable for bathroom floors, vanity walls, tub surrounds and full-height shower walls.
-
Entryways and Mudrooms: The matte texture and stone-inspired coloring work well in transitional areas.
-
Fireplace Surrounds: Brings softly weathered European character to fireplace façades outside the firebox.
-
Commercial Interiors: Suitable for appropriate boutiques, restaurants, hospitality spaces and reception areas.
-
Covered Patios: Frost-resistant porcelain can support indoor-outdoor continuity when installed with an exterior-rated setting system.
-
Versailles-Pattern Floors: Coordinates with Ostuni Avorio 8" × 8", 8" × 16" and 16" × 24" tiles.
Although the Matt finish carries an R10/A+B classification, exterior slopes, exposed walkways and continuously wet areas may require the separate Grip R11/A+B+C finish.
Versailles Pattern Configuration
One complete modular repeat uses:
| Format | Pieces per Pattern | Pattern Percentage |
|---|---|---|
| 8" × 8" | 4 | 11.11% |
| 8" × 16" | 2 | 11.11% |
| 16" × 16" | 4 | 44.44% |
| 16" × 24" | 2 | 33.33% |
Purchase all formats together and confirm compatible shade and caliber lots. Use the manufacturer’s official modular-layout diagram before installation.
Installation and Handling Guidelines
IMPORTANT: V4 HIGH-VARIATION LAYOUT
Substantial differences in color, markings and graphic intensity are intentional. Open multiple cartons and approve the blended layout before installation.
-
Dry-Lay and Blend: Distribute lighter, darker and more heavily marked pieces throughout the installation.
-
Substrate Preparation: Install over a flat, clean, stable and properly prepared substrate.
-
Mortar Selection: Use an ANSI A118.4 or A118.15 polymer-modified mortar approved for porcelain and the installation environment.
-
Mortar Coverage: Directionally trowel the mortar and back-butter where necessary. Obtain at least 80% coverage in dry interiors and 95% in wet or exterior installations.
-
Grout Joint: The chiselled edges require sufficient joint width to accommodate their intentionally irregular appearance. Approximately 3/16" is generally appropriate, subject to installer and manufacturer requirements.
-
Offset Limitation: If using an offset layout, keep the offset at 33% or less unless tile flatness has been evaluated.
-
Modular Installation: Do not assume nominal dimensions alone will produce the correct Versailles layout. Include the specified grout joints and follow the official pattern diagram.
-
Wet Areas: Install showers over a complete waterproofing system. Sealer does not substitute for waterproofing.
-
Shower-Floor Caution: The 16" square format may be difficult to slope properly toward a conventional shower drain. Use a coordinating mosaic unless the shower is designed for large-format tile.
-
Exterior Installation: Use freeze-thaw-rated setting materials and include proper drainage, waterproofing and movement accommodation.
-
Movement Joints: Provide perimeter and field movement joints in accordance with TCNA EJ171 and applicable construction requirements.
-
Cutting: Wet-cut with an appropriate diamond blade. Do not dry-cut or grind because porcelain fabrication can release respirable crystalline-silica dust.
-
Order Allowance: Add approximately 10–15% for straight installations and 15–20% for Versailles, diagonal or highly selective layouts.
Care and Maintenance
-
Clean with warm water and a neutral-pH porcelain tile cleaner.
-
Use a soft nylon brush to remove residue from the lightly textured surface.
-
Avoid waxes, oily soaps and products that leave a slippery coating.
-
Rinse away detergent residue thoroughly, especially in wet and exterior areas.
-
The porcelain surface normally does not require sealing.
-
Cement-based grout may require sealing according to its manufacturer’s instructions.
-
Test grout-release products before use because the chiselled edges and textured surface can retain grout residue.
Design Profile
-
Aesthetic Inspiration: Apulian limestone, Tuscan farmhouse, Mediterranean villa, rustic European and organic contemporary.
-
Color Character: Warm ivory, pale cream, soft beige and sun-washed mineral tones.
-
Visual Advantage: V4 variation and vintage-effect edges create the appearance of individually selected natural-stone pieces.
-
Complementary Materials: White oak, walnut, aged bronze, creamy quartz, limewash and warm plaster.
-
Complementary Metals: Unlacquered brass, antique bronze, brushed nickel and blackened iron.
-
Suggested Grout Colors: Ivory or warm beige produces a unified stone appearance; taupe creates stronger definition.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Ostuni Avorio natural limestone?
No. It is Italian porcelain designed to reproduce the tonal movement, texture and weathered edges of Mediterranean limestone.
Is this the Matt or Grip version?
This listing is for the Matt R10/A+B version. Cerdomus also manufactures a separate Grip R11/A+B+C finish.
Does every tile look the same?
No. Ostuni Avorio carries a V4 High Variation rating. Substantial differences between pieces are intentional.
Can it be installed outdoors?
Yes, the porcelain is frost resistant. Exterior suitability still depends on climate, slope, drainage, substrate, setting materials and local slip-resistance requirements.
Does the tile require sealing?
The porcelain surface normally does not require sealing. Cement-based grout may require a penetrating grout sealer.
Can the 16x16 tile be used in a Versailles pattern?
Yes. It coordinates with the 8x8, 8x16 and 16x24 Ostuni Avorio formats to create a four-size modular pattern.
Can it be installed on a shower floor?
The Matt finish is classified R10/A+B, but the 16" format may be difficult to slope toward a standard shower drain. A coordinating mosaic is generally more practical.
