Product Overview

Cerdomus Ostuni Sabbia 16" x 24" Porcelain Tile captures the warmth and timeworn character of natural limestone found throughout Italy’s Salento region. Made in Italy as part of the Pietra di Ostuni Collection, Sabbia blends sandy beige, golden cream, toasted almond, and subtle caramel tones with organic mineral movement.

The 16" x 24" rectangular format, vintage-effect edges, and softly textured matte surface recreate the appearance of aged Mediterranean flagstone. It can be installed independently or combined with coordinating Ostuni formats to create a modular Versailles pattern. Advanced porcelain construction provides low water absorption, frost resistance, and easier maintenance than genuine limestone.

Recommended Applications

  • Kitchen and Living-Area Floors: Brings the warmth of aged Italian stone to open-plan kitchens, dining rooms, hallways, and living spaces.

  • Primary Bathrooms and Spa Interiors: Suitable for bathroom floors, vanity walls, tub surrounds, and full-height shower walls over approved substrates.

  • Entryways and Commercial Interiors: The rich Sabbia palette creates a welcoming architectural surface for foyers, boutiques, restaurants, and hospitality spaces.

  • Covered Patios and Outdoor Living Areas: Frost-resistant porcelain supports indoor-outdoor continuity when installed with the appropriate exterior setting system.

  • Versailles-Pattern Floors: Coordinates with the Ostuni 8" x 8", 8" x 16", and 16" x 16" formats to create a traditional four-size modular layout.

Installation & Handling Guidelines

⚠️ IMPORTANT: HIGH-VARIATION TILE LAYOUT PROTOCOL

Ostuni Sabbia carries a V4 shade rating. Considerable differences in color, markings, and graphic intensity are intentional and contribute to its natural-stone appearance.

  • Dry-Lay and Blend: Open several cartons and arrange the tiles before installation. Distribute lighter, darker, and more heavily marked pieces throughout the surface.

  • Mortar Selection: Use an ANSI A118.4 or A118.15 polymer-modified Large and Heavy Tile mortar approved for porcelain and the installation environment.

  • Mortar Coverage: Directionally trowel the mortar and back-butter tiles as necessary. Obtain at least 80% coverage in dry interiors and 95% coverage in wet or exterior areas.

  • Offset Limitation: For running-bond installations, use an offset of no more than 33% unless tile flatness has been evaluated and a different layout approved by the installer.

  • Grout Joint: The vintage-effect edges require enough joint width to accommodate dimensional variation. A 3/16" joint is generally appropriate, but the final width should follow manufacturer and installer requirements.

  • Modular Patterns: Use the manufacturer’s official layout diagram when combining multiple sizes. Purchase all modules together and confirm that they share a compatible caliber and shade lot.

  • Wet Areas: Install shower walls and bathroom floors over an approved waterproofing system. Confirm drainage, slope, and local slip-resistance requirements before using large-format tile on a shower floor.

  • Movement Accommodation: Include perimeter and field movement joints following TCNA EJ171 and applicable construction requirements.

  • Order Allowance: Add approximately 10–15% for straight installations and 15–20% for Versailles, diagonal, or highly selective layouts.

Care & Maintenance

  • Clean with warm water and a neutral-pH porcelain tile cleaner.

  • Use a soft nylon brush to remove residue from the lightly textured surface.

  • Avoid waxes, oily soaps, and cleaners that leave a slippery film.

  • Rinse away detergent residue thoroughly, particularly in exterior and wet applications.

  • Porcelain generally does not require sealing. Cement-based grout may require sealing according to its manufacturer’s instructions.

Design Profile

  • Aesthetic Inspiration: Mediterranean limestone, Italian farmhouse, rustic European, organic contemporary, and warm transitional.

  • Color Character: Sandy beige with golden cream, toasted almond, and softly weathered mineral tones.

  • Visual Advantage: V4 variation and vintage-effect edges create a convincingly natural, individually laid stone appearance.

  • Complementary Materials: White oak, walnut, aged bronze, unlacquered brass, creamy quartz, limewash walls, and warm plaster finishes.

  • Suggested Grout Colors: Warm beige or sand creates a unified stone appearance, while taupe or light mocha provides stronger definition.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Cerdomus Ostuni Sabbia natural limestone?

No. It is Italian porcelain engineered to reproduce the color variation, texture, and aged edges of natural Apulian limestone.

Can Ostuni Sabbia be used outdoors?

Yes, the tile is frost resistant. Exterior suitability still depends on the climate, substrate, drainage, mortar, expansion joints, and installation method.

Does this porcelain tile require sealing?

The porcelain surface normally does not require sealing. Cement-based grout may require a penetrating grout sealer.

Can the 16" x 24" tile be installed in a Versailles pattern?

Yes. It coordinates with the 8" x 8", 8" x 16", and 16" x 16" Ostuni formats to create a four-size modular pattern.

Why do the tiles vary significantly in color?

Ostuni Sabbia has a V4 high-variation rating. Noticeable differences between pieces are intentional, so tiles should be blended from several cartons.

Is this the Grip version?

No. This description applies to the Matt/Natural R10 version. Cerdomus also manufactures a separate Grip R11, A+B+C version in the same size.
