This is the "Mediterranean Earth" of the collection. While the Avorio color provides a cool, sun-bleached look, the Cerdomus Ostuni Sabbia 16x24 captures the warmth of toasted Southern Italian limestone. It is the premier choice for a "Rustic Villa" or "Warm Transitional" aesthetic, prioritizing a deep, sandy beige palette and a "vintage" chiseled edge that mimics centuries-old masonry.
PRODUCT TITLE
Effetto Pietra di Ostuni Series: Sabbia 16" x 24" Porcelain Tile by Cerdomus
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Transport your home to the sun-soaked Salento region of Italy with the Ostuni Sabbia. Designed by Cerdomus, this tile is an homage to the legendary limestone of the "White City" (Ostuni). The "Sabbia" (Sand) colorway features a rich, multi-tonal beige field with organic sediment markings, delicate fossil-like traces, and a warm-taupe grain that adds immediate soul to any room.
The 16" x 24" format is the anchor of the series. Each tile is finished with a specialized "Vintage-Effect" or Chiseled Edge, providing a soft, pillowed perimeter that looks as if it were hand-carved by a stonemason. Utilizing high-definition inkjet technology, the Sabbia series offers a V4 Substantial Variation, meaning every tile features a unique graphic depth that prevents the repetitive look often found in lower-quality stone-look porcelain.
KEY FEATURES
-
High-Variation "Sabbia" Palette: A "V4" rating ensures a dynamic range of sandy beige and warm taupe tones, creating a natural, non-repeating floor.
-
Artisanal Chiseled Edges: Features a soft, "pillowed" edge that imitates weathered natural limestone for an authentic antique feel.
-
Premium Italian Porcelain: Produced by Cerdomus in Italy, offering an impervious, stain-resistant surface that is far more durable than real limestone.
-
Multi-Format Versatility: Specifically designed as the primary piece for a Versailles Pattern (modular layout) when paired with 8x8, 8x16, and 16x16 sizes.
-
Durable PEI 4 Rating: Engineered to withstand the heavy foot traffic of residential hallways and medium-commercial lobbies.

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
⚠️ CRITICAL: Because of the "V4" high variation, you MUST open 4–5 boxes at once and shuffle the tiles. The Sabbia colorway is designed to have light and dark "surprises" that need to be artistically distributed to avoid creating patches of a single shade.
Manufacturer Recommendations:
-
Recommended Grout: Use a Sanded or High-Performance Grout in a color-matched tone like "Sand," "Buff," or "Sahara Beige." A matching grout allows the chiseled edges to be the star rather than the grout line.
-
Grout Joint: A minimum of 1/8" to 3/16" is recommended. The slightly irregular, chiseled edges look best when they have room to "breathe" within the joint.
-
Adhesive: Use a high-quality, polymer-modified thin-set. For 16x24 tiles, ensure back-buttering is performed to achieve 100% coverage and prevent hollow spots.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
How does it feel underfoot? The Matte finish has a soft, tactile "stone" feel. It is not rough, but it provides a natural grip (R10 rating) that is safe for bathrooms and kitchens.
-
What is the Versailles Pattern? It is a modular layout using four different sizes. To create one full pattern "module," you typically need two 16x24 tiles, four 16x16, two 8x16, and four 8x8 tiles.
-
Is it better than real limestone? Yes, in terms of maintenance. Real limestone is soft and stains easily; the Ostuni porcelain is impervious to water, acids (lemon juice/vinegar), and heavy scratching.
PRO INSTALLATION TIPS
-
The "Limestone Flow": When laying 16x24 tiles in a standard offset, aim for a 1/3 offset rather than a 50% brick bond. This creates a more organic, stone-paving aesthetic.
-
Edge Cleaning: Because the edges are "chipped" or chiseled, be diligent during grouting. Use a clean sponge to ensure no grout is trapped in the micro-crevices of the tile's edge, which can be hard to clean once dry.
-
Lighting Interaction: Use warm-toned LED lighting (2700K–3000K) to bring out the honey-beige tones in the Sabbia glaze. Cool white light can sometimes make the warm beige look slightly grey.
