Product Overview
Elysium Pontus Royal Calacatta Gold 10.5" x 11.75" Mosaic Tile is a luxury waterjet-cut mosaic that brings sweeping organic movement, high-end Italian stone elegance, and luminous warmth to interior feature walls. Part of Elysium Tile’s exclusive Pontus Collection, this intricate mosaic features fluid, wave-like interlocking petals crafted from authentic Italian Calacatta Gold marble and accented with delicate glass/metallic inlay lines.
The Royal Calacatta Gold colorway combines a smooth milky-white marble background with signature soft gray veining and rich ribbonings of warm honey-gold. Engineered on a flexible 10.5" x 11.75" interlocking mesh sheet (~0.85 sq. ft. per sheet), the wave-like waterjet pattern creates a continuous, flowing "fluid ribbon" effect ideal for kitchen backsplashes, primary bath feature walls, and shower accents.

Installation and Handling Guidelines
⚠️ IMPORTANT: NATURAL STONE & WATERJET MOSAIC PROTOCOL
-
Pre-Sealing Required Prior to Grouting: Calacatta Gold marble is a porous natural stone. Apply a high-quality penetrating natural stone sealer to the tile faces prior to grouting to guard against grout haze and pigment absorption.
-
Pure White Thin-Set Mortar Essential: Always set light-colored natural marble mosaics using a polymer-modified pure white thin-set mortar (ANSI A118.4). Gray thinset will shadow through translucent white marble and permanently alter its tone.
-
Flatten Trowel Ridges: Apply thinset with a 3/16" x 1/4" V-notch trowel, then flatten the mortar ridges with the flat side of the trowel before setting the mosaic. This prevents trowel rake lines from showing through thin glass/stone pieces.
-
Non-Abrasive Grout Selection: Maintain a tight joint and use a non-sanded grout or high-performance flexible grout designed for delicate natural stone and glass to avoid scratching polished surfaces.
Care and Maintenance
-
Routine Cleaning: Clean regularly using warm water and a neutral pH natural stone cleaner. Avoid acidic cleaners, vinegar, bleach, lemon juice, or abrasive scrubbers, which will etch marble surfaces.
-
Periodic Resealing: Reapply a quality penetrating stone sealer every 1 to 2 years (or more frequently in shower wet areas) to maintain water repellency and stain defense.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Elysium Pontus Royal Calacatta Gold mosaic require sealing?
Yes. As genuine Italian marble, Calacatta Gold is porous and must be sealed with a penetrating stone sealer prior to grouting and maintained periodically over time.
Can this waterjet mosaic tile be installed on shower walls?
Yes! It is popular for shower accent walls and vanity surrounds when set using white polymer-modified mortar, sealed correctly, and installed on a waterproof backer board.
Why is pure white thinset mortar required for installation?
Calacatta Gold marble possesses slight natural translucency. Standard gray thinset mortar will show through the stone, causing dark discoloration or uneven shading across the light white background.
