Product Overview
MSI Via Bianchi Cotto 13" x 13" Matte Porcelain Floor and Wall Tile recreates the warmth and artisanal character of vintage hydraulic and encaustic tile in durable glazed porcelain. Earthy cotto, terracotta, burnt orange, cream, and soft white accents form a richly layered geometric design inspired by hand-laid Mediterranean floors.
Each 13" square tile features a pre-scored format that creates the appearance of multiple smaller patterned pieces after grouting. Its matte surface and gently weathered graphics provide an authentic handcrafted look without the sealing and intensive maintenance associated with genuine cement tile or unglazed terracotta.

-
Laundry and Mudroom Floors: Adds graphic character to practical residential spaces.
-
Kitchen Backsplashes: Produces a distinctive patterned wall behind ranges, sinks, and countertops.

Pool Decks and Spa Walking Surfaces: No suitable wet-slip classification is published.

Exterior Freeze-Thaw Installations: MSI does not publish frost-resistance approval for this specific item. Obtain written manufacturer confirmation before exterior use.
Installation & Handling Guidelines
⚠️ IMPORTANT: DCOF BELOW 0.42 WHEN WET
The matte appearance does not automatically make this tile slip-resistant. MSI reports a wet DCOF below 0.42, so it should not be used where customers will routinely walk on a wet surface.
-
Dry-Lay the Pattern: Arrange several tiles before installation to understand how the internal pre-scored graphics connect across the floor.
-
Blend Multiple Cartons: Mix tiles from several cartons to distribute the V2 tonal and graphic variation.
-
Substrate Preparation: The substrate must be clean, flat, stable, and suitable for porcelain tile.
-
Mortar Selection: Use a polymer-modified mortar meeting ANSI A118.4 or A118.15 and approved for porcelain and the installation environment.
-
Mortar Coverage: Obtain at least 80% coverage in dry interiors and 95% on shower walls or other wet-area vertical applications.
-
Grout the Pre-Scored Lines: Fill the factory scoring and surrounding tile joints uniformly when the scored design is intended to resemble individually installed smaller tiles.
-
Grout Color: Choose a grout that closely matches the factory scoring. Warm gray, sand, or muted beige usually maintains the intended continuous pattern.
-
Joint Alignment: Use a straight-grid installation and align the exterior joints with the internal scored pattern.
-
Test the Grout: Apply grout to a spare tile first to confirm that the color coordinates with the scoring and cleans properly from the matte surface.
-
Wet Areas: Install shower-wall applications over a complete waterproofing system. Tile and grout do not replace waterproofing.
-
Movement Accommodation: Include perimeter and field movement joints following TCNA EJ171 and applicable construction requirements.
-
Cutting Safety: Wet-cut or use an appropriate score-and-snap method. Do not dry-cut with power tools because porcelain fabrication creates hazardous silica dust.
-
Order Allowance: Add approximately 10–15% for cuts, pattern alignment, breakage, and future repairs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Via Bianchi Cotto genuine terracotta or cement tile?
No. It is glazed porcelain designed to reproduce the warm coloration and handcrafted appearance of vintage terracotta and hydraulic tile.
What does pre-scored mean?
The surface includes factory-made grooves that divide the 13" tile visually into smaller patterned sections. Once grouted, it resembles multiple individually installed tiles.
Can this tile be installed on a shower floor?
No. MSI reports a wet DCOF below 0.42, so it should not be promoted for shower pans or other wet walking surfaces.
Can it be installed on shower walls?
Yes. Install it over a complete waterproofing system using setting materials approved for porcelain tile.
Can it be installed outdoors?
MSI does not publish frost-resistance approval for this specific product. Obtain written manufacturer confirmation before specifying it outdoors.
How many tiles come in one carton?
One carton contains nine tiles covering approximately 10.57 square feet.
Does Via Bianchi Cotto require sealing?
The glazed porcelain surface normally does not require sealing. Cement-based grout may require sealing.
Will every tile look identical?
No. The V2 rating indicates slight differences in color and graphic appearance. Blend material from several cartons before installation.
